A Biography of Alexa Palermo:

My name is Alexa Palermo and I am a Broadcast and Digital Journalism Major with a Minor in Sports Media. I am from Long Island, New York which is where I was born and raised. I have three siblings. A younger sister that is a freshman at USC and a brother and sister that are twins and juniors in high school! My parents are my best friends and would not be the person that I am today without them. I call them everyday and I am so grateful for the relationship that I have with both of them. I was a competitive dancer for 12 years and loved every second of it. My experiences on stage and in the studio really shaped the person that I am today. Dancing gave me discipline and organization which has since translated into my everyday life.

I dreamed of coming to USC since I was a freshman in high school. I can honestly say that getting accepted to this university was one of the best moments of my life and an achievement that makes me very proud. I was a spring admit so I spent my first semester of college abroad in Paris, France. I am constantly busy here at USC, which I love. I work on four different television shows that discuss news, sports and entertainment. I love being a Trojan and attending USC. Gameday is basically a holiday for me.

While tailgating is fun, it is not the main reason that I look forward to gameday. There is something really special about watching a play unfold right before your eyes and it working out just as well if not better than expected. There is nothing like having a player take it to the house on a kickoff. There is nothing like getting a touchdown in the fourth quarter to beat UCLA. There is nothing like seeing Cam Smith intercept the ball on three different occasions against a team we were not expected to beat. There are so many special moments that happen in the walls of the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that rival pro moments.

I originally declared journalism as my major because I loved to talk and thought that journalism would be a great career. As I have gone through college that idea has changed. I have learned so much from Annenberg these past two years and realized that I don't see myself in the traditional role as a journalist. I have been thinking about what I would love to do in the future and I know wholeheartedly that I want to be in the field of sports, specifically football and the NFL. Currently my dream job would be one with the Los Angeles Rams, in their media department, whether it be helping with marketing or PR or managing their social media accounts. I feel like I have gained a very well rounded education thus far at USC and to be able to apply a variety of skills in my job would keep it from getting boring.

My passion to understand every aspect about one of America’s favorite past times and my desire to be a part of something a million times bigger than me are the two main reasons that I want to work in the NFL. But on a more personal level my love for the game of football and the camaraderie that surrounds the game is the reason that I want to pursue a career in it. I want to help contribute to someone’s favorite moment at a game or find out a funny fact about a player that makes a fan laugh. They say if you do something you love you will never work a day in your life and if I get the opportunity to work in the NFL I know that I will never have to work a day in my life.

My favorite news organization is ESPN.
