Hailey Tucker is a junior studying broadcast and digital journalism at the University of Southern California. As a Trojan, Hailey has explored various media outlets including the Daily Trojan, Annenberg Media and Annenberg's Sports Scene.
She currently serves as the sports editor of the Daily Trojan and looks forward to covering an exciting football season from the sidelines. Hailey's most exciting USC sports moment was in 2014 when the football team upset Stanford on the road.
After graduating from USC, Hailey hopes to pursue a career in sports media, possibly working for a professional team or university as a member of the communications team or as a reporter for a media outlet.
Her favorite sports teams are the San Diego Chargers, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings. Hailey has never attended a game where any of these teams have won though, so pursuing a career with them may ultimately cause their demise.
Hailey has had the opportunity to work for Major League Baseball as a sports information intern at the Compton Urban Youth Academy. She worked directly with a collegiate summer baseball team and discovered an interest in photography while reporting on each game. She has also interned for USA TODAY Sports and with the Village News, the local newspaper where she grew up.
She chose journalism as a way to delve deeper into the world of sports and use words to leave a lasting impression on those around her. She enjoys telling the stories behind the athletes and exploring sports in an unconventional way that focuses on people rather than simply wins and loses. She has written stories on Jake Olson, USC football's blind long snapper, the graduation trends of athletes at USC and Lynn Swann, USC's athletic director.
Also in her time at USC, Hailey traveled to Guatemala as a part of an Alternative Spring Break trip in which she spent a week with a team of other students building a cafeteria at an elementary school and playing with school children in a local watering hole.
Hailey hopes to study abroad in New Zealand in Spring 2017. After returning, she is excited to continue learning from an impressive faculty at Annenberg. Hailey looks forward to taking a sports commentary class. Her favorite classes so far have been film symposium, cross-cultural research on urban gangs and communicating with the professional athlete.
Hailey is a native of Bonsall, Calif., a town of just more than 3,000 residents. She grew up with one younger sister, Cassidy, who is a sophomore in high school. Hailey and Cassidy have spent many hours farming avocados with their father who owns several avocado groves.
A graduate of Fallbrook High School, Hailey was a three-year letter winner in basketball and a two-year letter winner in tennis. After suffering, and recovering from, a torn ACL before her senior year, Hailey returned to the basketball court to finish her athletic career, a feat she still considers to be one of her most impressive.
The Tucker family has embarked on many incredible family vacations, many leading to some of Hailey's most treasured memories. Hailey especially enjoyed road trips across Canada and the Great Plains.
